Several listeners have asked for music podcasts, and here’s our first one! We took a giant risk with this episode by doing a thing we’ve never done before: putting in clips of things.

Here’s what we talked about, including links to where you can find the artists behind all the clips we played.

  • My  audiobook series of choice, which I cannot listen to while running: James Marsters reading “The Dresden Files”
  • Whether music making our workouts easier is psychological or physiological
  • They Might Be Giants, MC Frontalot and Vampire Weekend as frequent performers in our running playlists
  • MixMeister and Cadence
  • Using services like Spotify to get music you wouldn’t normally listen to into your workout mix
  • A friend’s
  • MC Frontalot’s “Tongue-clucking Grammarian” from the album “Final Boss
  • “Hasa Diga Ebowai” from the original cast recording from “Book of Mormon
  • Along the same theme, “I Just Had Sex” by The Lonely Island and “W’s Duty” by Jonathan Coulton
  • “Sammy Davis Jr.” by Movits! (The chorus of this song is the part that’s in English, and that’s the clip in the episode.)
  • OK Go‘s “Get Over It,” from the album “OK Go
  • Along those lines, OK Go’s “Do What You Want”
  • Plastic Bertrand‘s “Ca Plane Pour Moi”
  • Similarly, ABBA‘s “Take a Chance On Me,” Amii Stewart’s “Knock on Wood,” and Three Dog  Night’s “Joy to the World,”  Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky,” and ELO.
  • Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies‘ “Goodbye, Earl,” originally by Sons of the Desert and made famous by The Dixie Chicks, from the album “Love Their Country”
  • “Je Veux te Voir” by Yelle
  • Encino Morricone’s “L’arena,” from the “Kill Bill: Vol. 2″ soundtrack
  • Following that theme, the music from the bit where they light the beacons in “Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” the theme song from “Doctor Who,” and the theme song from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”
  • From the “Tron: Legacy” soundtrack, Daft Punk‘s “Derezzed”
  • Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra‘s “Left With the Dog”
  • They Might Be Giants‘ cover of Chumbawumba’s “Tub Thumping,” with The Onion AV Club Choir, available on their album “Album Raises New and Troubling Questions
  • The Ting Tings‘ “Keep Your Head”
  • “Cubicle” by Rinocerose, which really does sound like a Jack White song
  • Listener mail from listener Caitlin, who wrote about our swearing episode. Also, our thanks to nurses everywhere.
